Did I make a mistake? I've never painted a room before.?

Do YOU like it??? thats all that matters. Semi gloss fine. Latex will smell for a few days. IF you used oil based, which I doubt, the smell would overwhelm you. I think you are just fine if YOU are OK with the color.
